Unpaper Towels
Swedish Dishcloth
My favorite swap to date. I've saved 32 pounds of waste from going to the landfill and $127 just by switching from paper towels to reusable ones 3 years ago. They give you a more efficient clean and it's good for the planet. All you do when your'e done using them is throw them in the laundry.
2. Q-tips
Compostable (500)
Or, you can do what I do and stop using cotton swabs all together. That’s the most eco-friendly option of all! Your ears don’t actually need cleaning — most doctor's will agree it does more harm than good.
4. Soap Saver Bag
Bag/Loofah
Convenient, cute, and good for the planet. Anytime a soap bar I have becomes so small it’s unusable, I toss it in this bag that I keep hanging in my shower. I then use it as a loofah. No drop wasted!
6. Comb
Beard Comb
I have a wooden hair comb but (un?)fortunately never had to try out the beard comb.
7. Floss
Bamboo Charcoal Floss
Trust, once you switch to darker/black floss, you won’t go back. I thought I was giving my teeth a nice clean before, but you’ll see just how much you missed when you start using these.
8. Toothbrush
Kid
Simplest swap, you won’t be able to tell the difference between these and the plastic ones you’re used to. Still on the lookout for a sustainable electric toothbrush!
9. Razor
Razor refills (100 pk)
Another favorite swap of mine. The shave is closer, there’s less waste involved, and I’ve personally never cut myself the way I used to. Some say there is a learning curve but I must’ve gotten lucky.Another eco-friendly option: opt out of shaving. I stopped shaving my legs and arms years ago (burn, patriarchy) and I’ve never felt more connected to my body.
10. Portable Water Bottle
Canteen
I keep this in my everyday tote back 24/7. Can’t tell you how many times it has come in handy, how many plastic water bottles I’ve avoided.
11. Electric Lighter
Zippo Style
Not only does this work super well, it also looks way cooler than regular lighters. They come in different shapes for different preferences, like this zippo-style one in this image here, or a stick-style one better suited for candles.
12. Portable Utensils
Bamboo Set
Another item I keep in my go-bag at all times. I never purchased a kit like this, instead opting to make my own portable utensil case using small, draw-string bag and utensils I already had at home.
13. Bidet
This is the one that I use. In my experience, there’s no need to buy a more expensive one whatsoever. I thank the universe everyday for being born into an Arab family — I’ve never had to go a day without washing the goods <3
14. Coffee Brewer
Aeropress
My current set up is a stainless steel dripper, but there’s a sustainable option for any coffee preference.
